How to get around school internet filters

School Internet Filters can be a bummer. This is an exclusive post where I will help you do something a little naughty and bypass these school filters as well as filters which your parents may have set up at home. Do note that they have set up internet filters for a reason. Firstly, it is to stop you from reducing your working efficiency, they want you to stop going on websites like Facebook and Yahoo games while you are in school (as if that would happen). Perhaps the more important reason is that they do not want the computers to get infected. Internet filters automatically block suspicious sites such as free downloads and lyrics websites because they are notorious for installing spyware. If you decide to go overboard and end up installing spyware in the school’s network then you may be in for some big trouble. Anyhow, here are some techniques which can help you get around parents and school internet filters. Please be sensible about it.
1. Web Proxies
Probably the most common technique people use. Web proxies are somewhat like online portals. In simple terms, its basically using an anonymous IP address to access the web. This anonymous website is not registered with the network at school or at home hence why you will be able to access any site you want like when you use a normal and filter-free computer. Examples of web proxies include Hide My Ass and Proxy4Free. The downside of using web proxies is that these websites may also be filtered as well which means you can’t even use them in the first place. Another and more important con is that these proxy websites may be polluted with spyware so it is important you choose one which is genuine. Finally, some proxies cannot handle flash objects and javascript properly so you may not be able to access javascript based websites like Facebook.
2. Use a different Internet Browser
This easy trick should enable you to use the internet freely without too much of a hassle however there is a catch. If you want to use this method then you need to make sure that particular internet browser is not already installed on the school’s computer. What do I mean? For example, if your school computer only has Internet Explorer installed then you can use Mozilla Firefox instead which would not be configured in your school’s filtering system. The problem is that most school’s computer do not allow you to download files from the internet, for security reasons. So what you are going to do is go home and download Firefox, Google Chrome or any Internet browser which is not preconfigured in your school. You are then going to install the internet browser and access its directory in C:/ Program files. You are then going to copy and paste the whole directory into a USB flash drive. All you need to do now is take your USB flash drive with you, plug it into the school computer and load Firefox (or another Internet Browser) straight from your USB flash drive.
These two methods should work for most people. If they don’t then bad luck. If you know of any other methods then feel free to contact us and we will post it up straight away.
