isuspm.exe Process – Startup and Removal

What is isuspm.exe?

isuspm.exe is a windows process related to the application called InstallShield which is created by Macrovision. It is also recognized by its process name, InstallShield Automatic Updater. isuspm.exe checks for automatic updates from the Macrovision server and if there is any updates available then it prompts the user. The program gets installed when you install any Macrovision product. It will ask the user as to whether they want to update themselves to the current version of InstallShield or not. If the user click “yes”, then it will activate InstallShield updating service and download the updated file and patch the current version installed in the PC with the new one.

If the user does not want to update, then it will not download the updated file, but will keep prompting the user about the available updates. iuspm.exe gets automatically loaded during start up so that it can check for updates every time user logs on the internet. Users also have the choice to load it manually by activating the isuspm.exe and configuring it to load automatically. Removing this file will disable all InstallShield updates.

isuspm.exe Location

isuspm.exe is located in subfolder of ” C:\Program Files\Common FilesInstall\Shield\UpdateService\ISUSPM.exe. One can also find the location of the program by using search option from windows.

isuspm.exe Startup

Startup entry starts automatically from Run, RunOnce and Runservices.

Flexnet and isuspm.exe

Flexnet Connect Software Manager also uses isuspm.exe process to prompt users for software updates. On some laptops Flexnet comes pre-installed.

Remove/Uninstall isuspm.exe

isuspm.exe process cannot be removed by using simple Add/Remove program from the Control Panel. In order to remove it, follow these steps:

  • First install and download “Upload Manager Uninstaller” and save it on your desktop. Double click on the saved uninstaller and then click “Yes” to remove InstallShield update manager. Then the next step is to remove registry values
  • Download and install CCleaner free. After it gets installed, launch the program and click “Registry” button located on the far left
  • In order to locate leftover isuspm.exe registry values, click “scan for issues” and when scan is over select “Fix selected issues”. Click “Yes” to save your registry
  • Click Ok to get rid of the leftover values
  • Click Windows “start” button and click “search”. Click “Search all files and folders” to open the search box and click “More advanced options”
  • Search and delete isuspm.exe file
  • Once again click Windows Start button and click Run. Type msconfig and press Enter to open Systems Configuration Utility
  • Then finally click “Startup” tab and remove the check from “isuspm.exe”. Restart your machine to finalize and complete the removal process.

Isuspm.exe not a Virus

isuspm.exe is considered to be safe and not spyware, adware or virus related program. However, there might be some 3rd party download sites that can distribute this file infected with viruses.
