Twitter is Down, What is happening?

If you recently checked Twitter.com then you would have noticed that Twitter is down and all you will get is a blank screen. The same goes for Facebook where users are experiencing problems logging into their accounts. It has been reported that Twitter has been attacked by a denial-of-service attack, also known as DDOS. Unfortunately, it is hard to block against these kind of attacks, even for a company as big as Facebook and Twitter. When you suffer a DDOS attack, the hacker directs thousands or even millions of computers at the server. These computers are what we call zombies and these zombies are controlled by what is called a botnet. Unfortunately, there is nothing much you can do right now but wait until the DDOS attack is over and the Twitter server is back up.

So Twitter and Facebook, your two most favourite social networks are down. What do you do? You can make sure your computer is up to date with the latest spyware blocker. Although Spyware blockers cannot prevent your computer from being attacked by a DDOS swarm, it will protect you from the many rogue spyware which are circulating the internet. Use this time effectively and do something productive! Try and remember what you did previously before you started to update your Twitter status every ten minutes.
